Opened in 2003 and expanded to a capacity of 65,000 for the 2018–19 CAF Champions League final, the Ibn Batouta Stadium is one of Morocco’s largest and most modern football venues. Named after the famed 14th-century Moroccan explorer Ibn Battuta—born in Tangier—the stadium reflects the city’s spirit of openness and global connection.
Strategically located just 12 km from Tangier city center and near the Tanger-Ville railway station and Tanger Med port, it combines accessibility with architectural elegance: sweeping curves, a partial translucent roof, and panoramic views of the surrounding hills and Mediterranean horizon.
The stadium regularly hosts matches for IR Tanger, the Morocco national team, and major continental tournaments—including the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, where it will stage group-stage games. Designed with future international standards in mind, it is also slated for upgrades ahead of the 2030 FIFA World Cup, including potential enhancements to seating, lighting, and fan experience.
