The TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 is set to be a spectacular celebration of African football, hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco. This will be the 35th edition of the continent’s premier international men’s football championship and the second time Morocco has hosted the tournament, following the 1988 edition.
Key Dates and Host Cities
Dates: The tournament is scheduled to run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. This marks the first time AFCON will span the Christmas and New Year period.
Host Cities: Matches will be held across six major Moroccan cities in nine venues, showcasing the country’s modern infrastructure and vibrant culture:

Opening Match: Host nation Morocco will face Comoros on December 21, 2025, at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.
The Final: The championship match will take place on January 18, 2026, also at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Teams: 24 national teams will compete, divided into six groups of four.
Format: The top two teams from each group, along with the four best third-placed teams, will advance to the Round of 16, kicking off the straight knockout stage.
Defending Champions: Ivory Coast are the reigning champions, having won the AFCON 2023 title.
